Oxo Food Scale Giveaway

April 20, 2012 By Alex Curtis, RD LDN

Ever found a tasty looking recipe, but the ingredients are all listed in ounces and grams?

Yes! This has happened to me before, and I was always disappointed because I had no way to measure the ingredients. With this 5-pound digital scale, though, I am now able to make those recipes! If only I can remember what the recipes were…

You can even use the scale to measure your packages to send in the mail. Or you can use the scale to measure the ingredients in a muffin and then send the muffins in the mail!

Oxo 5-lb Food Scale Giveaway

This Giveaway is now Closed. Thanks to all who entered!

One winner will receive the 5-lb Digital Food Scale courtesy of Oxo. U.S. residents only, please, and no P.O. boxes-sorry!

I got a set of scales years ago and have converted all my American recipes. I find it so much easier than measuring cups. If you use the tare button you can measure as many ingredients as you want without emptying the bowl, just hit the tare button after each addition. Hope this helps anyone new to scales!

  99. Mary Legare Whaley says

    April 21, 2012 at 10:12 pm

YES. Whenever I stumble across a recipe with obscure measurements, I leave the website out of spite (though secretly, I am saddened that due to my pitiful conversion skills, I won’t be able to experiment with the recipe). I would use a food scale to measure out all of the twisted UK recipes I’ve found that sound so incredibly good…

  100. Kathryn says

    April 22, 2012 at 4:46 am

  104. Cadry says

    April 22, 2012 at 12:38 pm

It would be so handy to have a scale on hand for weighing things when a recipe calls for a certain amount in weight. Sometimes I’ve resorted to looking at my grocery store receipt to see what the weight was at the store, so that I can make an educated guess. It would also be handy for pasta recipes. I usually don’t use an entire package for a recipe, and so I have to eyeball it on amounts.

  105. Jeanie says

    April 22, 2012 at 2:58 pm

I would use a kitchen scale for EVERYTHING!!! I find it makes baking soooo much easier, as I can use many fewer utensils (not having to use any measuring cups, and can measure directly into the mixing bowl), and everything is super accurate. Weight measurements are also great for dieting, as you can teach yourself what a “serving” looks like 🙂

I’d use the scale to weight out food that I want to know the exact grams for!

I have an autoimmune digestive disease and portion is really important for my fragile frame. I would use the scale to make sure that each ingredient is portioned perfectly. This way, I will ensure a healthy body and mind for myself. I would also spread the knowledge to friends and family who are struggling to find the correct portion for food!
    Thank you
