Red, White, and Grey?

June 14, 2011 By Alex@Spoonful of Sugar Free

Happy Flag Day!

Did you know it was flag day? Honestly, I never really know these things until I look at my calendar in the morning and say, “Hey everyone-It’s Flag Day!” (In the United States atleast)

I never knew this before, but Flag Day is the day that the United States adopted the flag Betsy Ross made in 1777. Wave those flags high! And eat ’em, too!

~One Size Fits all Pancakes with frozen strawberries, melted.

I tried to make the pancakes “blue” by adding some concord grape juice, but they ended up turning grey. It would be better if I had some blueberries, but I didn’t have any at the time. I need to fix that!

Grey, yet delicious!

Thought-provoking, mind-prodding question of the day:

What was the last cooking oops you did?

I’m always experimenting with different ideas and recipes. One time I tried to make banana waffles in a panini maker instead of a waffle iron. Well…let’s just say I ate some caramelized goop for breakfast that day and spent the rest of the morning cleaning the panini maker.

My last cooking oops was last night. I was really in the mood for baking and made some smore cookies. Sounds good right? Not so much. Not aure what went wrong. But I tastes so much of the sugary batter trig to make it taste better that I just ended up getting sick. I’ve decided to stay relatively sugar free from here on out.

Oh no! Well, at least you know how much sugar you really can handle, right?

How did I miss a holiday??? Thanks for letting us know. 🙂

As for cooking “oops”…well, I tried to make Tempeh Burgers that had amazing flavor…actually getting them to stay together? Now…that was a problem. [And yes, I ate them anyway.]

Hmm the last oops? I tried making a protein muffin thing but I added way too many egg whites so it turned into a big rubbery mess. SO gross!

My last oops was my buckwheat waffles. The last couple of times I’ve tried them I’ve had to use pre-ground buckwheat and they have stuck so bad to the waffle iron! Horrible! But, the baby loves the messy waffle pieces and I just have to turn around and get the griddle out to make them into pancakes…

i tried to make “tuna pancakes” and instead ended up eating pieces of sauteed tuna & egg whites. not bad, but also not the crepe-like, protein snack i had in mind!

Haha….I know! I just happened to look down at my calendar today and it said “Flag Day.” What better way to celebrate than food?

I love your new layout! 😀

Yes, I have had my fair share of kitchen disasters — But I like to consider then learning moments. 🙂
