    Hi Alex,
I just found your site today and am so excited as I have just lost 50 lbs. and am trying to eat super healthy. I have a couple of questions for you:
    1. Do you take vitamins or herbs? If so, what do you think is essential for everyone to take?
    2. Since you don’t eat dairy, what do you do for butter?

    • Hi Jorge!

First, Congratulations on your weight loss! That is fantastic! To answer your questions:

      1. Yes I do take some vitamins. The amount I take now has gone down a lot since I first started taking them because of financial costs and what I feel I need. Our bodies are always changing, so I may drop some or add in more vitamins at any given time based on what I need then. Now I take vitamin D3, MASS (amino acid formula), Cod Liver Oil, Magnesium Calm, L Tryptophan, Vitamin C, L Glutamine powder. I have tested my blood before to find what I was deficient in, and I feel it is a great thing to do. I found I was low in vitamin D, so it really helped me to take this. Calm and Tryptophan help me sleep because I have trouble sleeping. Glutamine protects my muscles and stomach lining since I am an athlete and I have had stomach problems. Cod Liver Oil is great for joints and healthy skin and hair. MASS helps me retain muscle mass.

I really don’t believe one specific vitamin or mineral is perfect for everyone. Depending on diet, activities, sleep pattern, DNA, this all changes. These are what I’ve found help me.

      2. Honestly, I’m not much of a “butter fan” anyway. (I know friends who would cringe at that statement!). But I do use coconut oil a lot for greasing pans and using as a cooking oil. I choose nubutters like peanut butter to top my food any day.

  3. i used to be a major butter lover! Bt then I figured out that i am very allergic to dairy and it became totally worth it to quit using butter. I use olive oil for cooking. Coconut oil of baking. Also for baking i use earth balance (basally margarine) or vegetable oil – but both sparingly because i don’t think they are very good for you. Mashed avocado with a touch of soy sauce is a delightful substitute spread on toast.
